Chen Tai Chi traces back to the Chen family of Chenjiagou, where Chen Wangting (17th century) synthesized:
• Existing Chen family martial arts
• Daoist philosophy
• Qigong, Daoyin, and meridian theory
• Long Fist routines and Cannon Fist forms
All other major Tai Chi styles — Yang, Wu, Wu (Hao), Sun — ultimately descend from Chen.
This video demonstrates the Chen 74 form, preformed in a park in the usual way that tai chi is practiced in China - outdoors, in a park. The form as shown here takes about 12+ minutes. The participants were carefully placed, with those wearing traditional clothing toward the front. The woman wearing black on the left side of the screen in the first row performs very close to the flow of the movements and timing (not exact but close) of the master. That said, it's a lot to remember and do correctly and the entire group is talented. It's worth watching, especially if you are trying to decide what is right for you, the schools available in your city, and to get a sense of the form.
Chen shi TaijiQuan – 74 forms refers to the Chen‑style Laojia Yi Lu (Old Frame First Routine) in its 74‑movement standardized version. It’s one of the most important and widely practiced routines in all of Chen‑style Tai Chi, and it’s the form from which many other Tai Chi styles evolved. Different Chen lineages count movements differently (some say 72, 74, 75, or 83). The 74‑form version is a widely accepted modern standard used in many schools and online teaching resources. The 74‑form routine was codified by Master Chen Changxing (1771–1853) by integrating and simplifying earlier Chen family routines.
