In case you missed it: If you or a loved one are 65+ or disabled (45+) did you know that the YMCA offers free Moving for Better Balance classes across the United States? You do not need to be a member of the Y to join this class. The entire class can be performed from a sitting position. with a chair for stability or standing without any assistance.
"Moving For Better Balance is a 12-week evidence-based group exercise program developed by researchers at the Oregon Research Institute. The program, based on the principles of Tai Chi, is led by a qualified instructor and teaches eight movements modified especially for fall prevention." You can find a class at a Y near you by visiting this link.
Anyone interested in free online study classes offered directly by ORI (MBB and others for various ages) can inquire or read more about them here.
To learn more about this program, visit the Moving for Better Balance page on this website.
Here is a sample of the movements posted by the YMCA of Greater Waukesha County. This blogger, a certified tai chi instructor, has participated in the YMCA classes AND the ORI study multiple times. Although I will continue to study traditional Yang Style tai chi for years to come (because there is no perfect, only improve) I've found MBB classes in person and online to be beneficial and fun. If not for yourself, please learn more about these programs for a friend or loved one.
Peace
